The National Fair
July 7th - July 14th, 2008
Victoria, British Columbia
The National Fair is an event that establishes lasting memories and strengthens connections between Canadians every year.
Students representing all provinces and territories take part in a special week of sightseeing, historic tours, hands-on workshops, and special events. The National Fair is a unique opportunity for students to learn about a specific region of Canada and to interact and establish friendships with young people from a diversity of backgrounds.
At the end of the week, during a one-day public exhibition, students proudly share their outstanding history projects with the general public and with each other.
The culmination of the Historica Fairs Program is the annual National Fair, which brings together students from across our vast country. Fifteen students from each province and five from each of the territories gather for the National Fair and it is always a life changing experience for the participants. This year, in honour of BC150, the National Historica Fair was held in Victoria, July 7 to 14

BC Delegates to the National Fair
See below for the names and towns of the BC students who attended National Fair 2008. Four adults also accompanied the BC students to Victoria:
Head of Delegation: David Hooper (Retired teacher, Port Alberni)
Counsellors: David Langton Teacher (Abbotsford), Darcy Martin (Teacher, Kamloops), Robin Johnson )Nurse, Prince George)
Krysta Cowling, a grade 11 student from Richmond, also accompanied the delegation as an Alumni Student. The Alumni Program includes one grade 11 or 12 student from each province and territory. They serve as mentors to the younger delegates and act as photojournalists during the week producing the "Heritage Press".
The adults and alumni student were selected from applications that included letters of reference from the Regional Fair Coordinators. A requirement for the Head of Delegation is that he/she has attended a previous National Fair as a counsellor.
During the week, the National Fair delegates explored Beacon Hill Park, the Royal BC Museum, Craigdarroch Castle, St. Ann’s Academy and Fort Rodd Hill. On Saturday, at the project exhibition, students shared their outstanding history projects with each other and the community. A highlight of the Fair was the visit of the Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Steven Point to the student exhibition. The Sunday Reflection Ceremony was both happy and sad as delegates shared memories of a wonderful week and prepared to say goodbye to new friends.
